Time Management

One great equalizer in life is time. Think about it; not all of us make the same amount of money; we don't all share the same gifts or abilities nor do we all have the same capacity to comprehend information. That being said, the one thing that we all do share is time.

We know that there are 24 hours in a day; 60 minutes in an hour; 60 seconds in a minute, therefore each one of us have 86,400 seconds at our disposal each and every day. The question then becomes, what are you going to do with your allotment of time? While others may have certain advantages over you (athletic ability, family connections, etc.), no one is given more time in a day than you!

Whatever time you waste is gone forever. You can't show up for your test and tell the teacher; "Excuse me, Mr. Teacher...yeah, umm, I'm not going to be taking this test today because I chose to play video games last night and then watched the big game. So, I'll take this test when I'm good and ready." Your teacher would say, "Tough luck" and make you take the test. What am I trying to say? Simple, the time you waste is gone forever. You can't undo time. You can't go back and take a do-over. In other words, DON'T WASTE YOUR LIFE!

Simple Principle

Here's a simple principal to help you manage your time wisely; Do what you have to do today, so you can do what you want to do tomorrow! In other words, learn to prioritize the difference between needs and wants. Make a list of things you absolutely must/need to accomplish today. Be careful of the time wasters that always try to sneak up and steal your time. Say NO today so you can say YES tomorrow. Said differently, fulfill your obligations and duties today so you can have time to do what you want tomorrow.

If you'll discipline yourself to do your reading assignments, research projects and papers now, then you'll be able to enjoy your weekends and days off guilt free tomorrow because you'll have used your time wisely today!
